The Old Marple Farm, West Dover, Vermont This project began when I met the owners for the first time in what was then a hay-strewn barn last used for farm animals, hay, and equipment storage. That day, they told me of their dream of one day having a family retreat on this 250-acre property. We worked closely together and developed a plan to convert the two barns into one enormous family and guest facility, and the project was underway within four weeks. This beautiful 19th century barn now has six bedrooms & five bathrooms. It features a fully equipped a gym and a spacious family room. It is also equipped with a state-of-the-art, professional kitchen with a dining room overlooking the Deerfield River Valley. When the barn transformation was nearing completion, I was also given the opportunity to design and build a four car garage on this property with a cabinet maker’s workshop and an artist’s studio above. Realizing the potential of a large ‘sugar bush’ (a stand of sugar maple trees), we also designed and built a working “Sugar House” where over 4000 gallons of maple tree sap are rendered to produce over 100 gallons of maple syrup each spring. This project remains a very special one to me and to the homeowners. Completed 2000. |

Rye Beach, Rye Beach, New Hampshire The clients for this project desired a home that would have the grandeur reminiscent of the Georgian period but with the functional interior layout that would accommodate their growing family. The house features a formal entry foyer with a spiral staircase, four fireplaces, and a large children’s playroom lain out above a four-car garage. The professional kitchen and family room is centrally located in the house adjacent to a butler’s pantry and a dining room. An important element of the design was to build an exterior that would withstand the harsh New England seacoast weather utilizing brick exterior with aluminum-clad windows. Project Completed 1999.
