This project was in collaboration between Porreca Design & Build and Bensonwood Homes of Walpole, New Hampshire. The Bensonwood team provided the design work, the timber frame, the shell package and continued design support throughout the project. The role of Porreca Design & Build was to prepare the site and foundation for the timber frame arrival and to complete the home once the timber frame was erected and “shelled in” by the Bensonwood team. The result is a stunning home that some have described as a stone house with a timber frame. The home is super insulated and efficiently heated with radiant floor heat throughout. It also boasts a glassed-in, climate controlled lap pool room. Project Completed 2005. |

Plymouth Barn, West Dover, Vermont This interesting project began when the owners of a beautiful parcel of land asked me to find an old barn that could be converted into a home for them. Once a suitable barn was located, Mark immediately began working with the owners to design a functional layout within the four walls of this 18th century structure. The barn was carefully moved from its original location in NH to its new site and was then converted into a five bedroom, five bath home. The hand hewn timber frame is exposed and the entire structure is wrapped with a super insulated shell. It utilizes a high efficiency propane fired boiler to heat the radiant floor. One of its most stunning features is a center-chimney, wood-fired bake-oven in the very well equipped kitchen. Project Completed 2005. |

The design of this hilltop home overlooking the Connecticut River Valley was largely inspired by the Bungalow and Arts and Crafts period of the early 20th century. This cozy three bedroom, 2000 square foot home has stone and wood floors with radiant heat, wainscot and crown molding throughout, a wood fired oven in the corner of the fully equipped chef’s kitchen and a Rumford style fireplace finished with stone from the site and a black walnut fireplace mantle. This super insulated, efficiently heated home is well suited for the northern New England climate. Project Completed 2003.
